Eid al-Fitr 2026, 2027 and 2028 in Mauritania
Eid al-Fitr is celebrated in Mauritania with much religious fervour and general merriment.
In 2027, Eid al-Fitr falls on Tuesday 9 March. The holiday will be on Saturday 26 February in 2028.

The national holiday comes on the first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal, immediately following the holy month of Ramadan and month-long period of fasting, prayer and devotion. It is one of the most important of all Muslim commemorations.
Most businesses shut down for Eid al-Fitr, as do many government services. Transportation systems and roadways get extremely busy, and the whole country seems abuzz. After 30 days of dawn-to-dusk fasting, people finally break out of the fast in a spirit of jubilation. The contrast between the last day of Ramadan and the first day of Shawwal is truly stark.
The common activities of the day include attending mosque services, putting on family get-togethers, indulging in foods and sweets, going to visit little-seen relatives and friends, and making a special donation to the poor and needy.
