According to the Koran, Allah told Ibrahim in a dream to sacrifice Ishmael, his son. Ibrahim was willing to follow Allah’s command and was in the act of doing so when Allah provided a goat to sacrifice in place of Ishmael.
Today, Muslims sacrifice an animal and feast on it for Eid al-Adha. They also wear new clothes, visit family, and give donations to the poor. Those who can afford it visit Mecca at least once in their life for “Hajj” to follow Muhammad’s model and commemorate Ibrahim’s willingness to trust Allah.
