A special government moon-sighting committee announces the first day of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah every year, which then sets the date for Eid al-Adha on the tenth day of that month. And the celebration continues for four days from the tenth to the fourteenth of Dhu al-Hijjah.

The first order of business for Muslims on Eid al-Adha is to put on their best clothes and head to mosque in early morning. There they learn about Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail to Allah.

Then they head home to slaughter an animal, share part of it with the poor, and then feast and celebrate all day with family and friends.
