Labour Day 2027 and 2028 in Tanzania
Labour Day is a public holiday in Tanzania. And given that Tanzania is a highly unionised country, it’s no surprise that Labour Day, on 1 May, is a major date on the national holiday calendar.
In 2027, Labour Day falls on Saturday 1 May. The holiday will be on Monday 1 May in 2028.

Around 400,000 members belong to trade unions in Tanzania, with most of those unions themselves being members of the Trade Union Congress of Tanzania or the Zanzibar Trade Union Congress. Both before and after independence, this plethora of trade unions existed in the country and shows no signs of waning.
Under Tanzania’s Labour Code, workers must be given a paid day off on Labour Day and other national holidays. If they can’t get off due to the nature of their job, then they must be compensated by a different paid off-day later in the year. Holiday pay is also prescribed by law, unless the holiday falls on a Saturday or a Sunday.
