All Saints’ Day is also called All Hallows‘ Day. The day before it, Halloween, is also known as All Hallows‘ Eve. All Saints’ Day is a day appointed to honour all the official Catholic saints who don‘t already have their own individual saint day.

Many in Benin also remember their deceased relatives on All Saints’ Day. They may visit cemeteries to decorate the graves with flowers. Many also attend a special mass since it is considered a day of holy obligation to Roman Catholics.

About half the population of Benin is Christian, and about half those professing Christianity identify as Roman Catholic.
