Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday, also called “Mawlid“, is a national public holiday. On the Gregorian Calendar, its date migrates forward by about 11 days each year.
Around 51 percent of Chad’s people are Muslim, most living in the northern and eastern sections of the country, and most of these are Sunni.
While a few following very strict sects of Islam refuse to celebrate Muhammad’s Birthday, most go to mosque, pray, learn about Muhammad’s life and teachings, and recite traditional poems and songs to celebrate.
