Ascension Day is a holiday in Togo to commemorate Jesus Christ’s ascension to heaven as recorded in the Bible. It is observed on the fortieth day of Easter – 39 days after Easter Sunday – and always fall on a Thursday.

Ascension Day was introduced to Togo during its time as a French colony and has remained on the holidays’ calendar ever since. Since most of the population of Togo is Christian, there is a wide appreciation for the Ascension of Jesus Christ as a hugely significant event worth celebrating.
What do people do for Ascension Day? For one thing, they tend to go to church and meditate on the meaning of Christ’s sojourn on the Earth, ascension to the Father, and eventual return. They also typically get the day off from work or school. Many have a special meal with family and friends.
