Labour Day 2026, 2027 and 2028 in Algeria

Labour Day in Algeria is celebrated every 1 May, as it is in much of the rest of the world. This is a holiday to celebrate the contributions of workers to the economy and society, and also a time to highlight where progress still needs to be made towards fair and safe working conditions.

In 2027, Labour Day falls on Saturday 1 May. The holiday will be on Monday 1 May in 2028.

Labour Day was originally brought to Algeria through the influence of the French colonisers. Essentially, Labour Day is a welcome day off for Algerian workers, which they often spend with family and friends. Some may also attend labour union events, parades, or protests.

A labour union existed in Algeria before independence, but it was for French workers living in Algeria. An Algerian “workers’ confederation” became prominent following the revolution, however, and labour unions continue to exert a lot of influence in the country to this day.
