New Year’s Day 2026 and 2027 in Kenya
Kenya celebrates New Year’s Day with a public holiday every 1 January, as does most of the rest of the world. However, the celebrations really begin on New Year’s Eve and reach a high point with the turning of the clock from 11:59pm on 31 December to midnight on 1 January.

Both Christmas Day and Boxing Day on the day after Christmas are public holidays in Kenya too, which makes for a week or so of consecutive holiday cheer.
The largest and most famous New Year’s events take place in the capital city of Nairobi, but smaller parades, fireworks shows, and public parties take place all over Kenya each year.
Private parties also abound. Families feast together and watch the old year die and the new year come to life together. Loud music, dancing, singing, and shouting may also attend the celebrations.
