Ascension Day has been observed by Christians at least since A.D. 385. Mostly Roman Catholics and Anglicans still observe Ascension Day these days, but in Burundi, even those in other denominations will be aware of the meaning of the day. Ascension Day can fall anywhere between 30 April and 3 June.
In some churches, the Easter candle is finally put out on Ascension Day, and religious processions may take place. Roman Catholic dogma marks Ascension Day as a “day of holy obligation”.
