In Ghana, the Christmas season runs from 20 December through the first week in January, with a public holiday observed every 25 December for Christmas Day. It is a time full of celebration, and many people will visit relatives living in other parts of the country during this season.
In 2026, Christmas falls on Friday 25 December. The holiday will be on Saturday 25 December in 2027.

The real celebration starts on Christmas Eve. That’s when Christians attend midnight masses and church services, put on nativity plays, and sing and dance. Sometimes, the dancing goes on all night.
There are also fireworks and big parties on Christmas Eve. But on Christmas Day, many go back to church, then head home to exchange gifts and enjoy holiday favourites like okra soup, porridge, and fufu, which is yam paste.
