Ascension Day is a holiday in Madagascar to commemorate Jesus Christ’s ascension to heaven as recorded in the Bible. It is observed on the fortieth day of Easter – 39 days after Easter Sunday – and always fall on a Thursday.

The earliest possible date for Ascension Day is 30 April, while the latest date is 3 June. Roman Catholics may put out the Easter Candle, lit on Easter Sunday, on Ascension Day or on Pentecost ten days later. Some churches now celebrate Ascension Day on the Sunday following its actual Thursday date for convenience.
As 85 percent of Madagascar’s people are Christian, Ascension Day is found to be significant, and churches will be full of those attending special services.
