Réunion is an overseas department of France, and as such, it shares the same basic holiday calendar with mainland France. The people of Réunion are about 85 percent Roman Catholic and take All Saints’ Day on 1 November very seriously.

Many sermons in Catholic masses on All Saints’ Day will focus on the meaning of sainthood, the great deeds of past canonised saints, or the fact that saints not known to men but known to God are also to be honoured on All Saints’ Day.
