Botswana currently celebrates 10 official holidays throughout the year. The holiday laws are governed by the Labor Code of Botswana. This Labor Code, however, only denotes eight official holidays. The government has issued through their authority two additional holidays.

According to the Labour Code, employees must be given a day off with pay for all nationally recognised holidays. If the employee cannot take the day off due to the nature of their work, the law states that they must be given a different day off with pay instead or paid double their regular rate on the holiday. The option is up to the employer.

Two of Botswana’s holidays are two-day celebrations. On these holidays, employers are required to give the employees both days off, but are only required to pay for one day. Employers have the option of paying for both days if they desire.
