The Republic of Liberia currently celebrates 11 national holidays each year. All national holidays are regulated under the Labour Practice Laws Section 18. These laws provide employees throughout the country with a day off from work for all nationally recognised holidays. Under this law, all holidays which occur on a Sunday are moved to the following Monday for observance.

The President of Liberia holds the right to declare additional holidays throughout the year by official proclamation. The current president often uses this right and has, on average, declared at least three additional holidays each year over the last several years. Many of these holidays are only announced through proclamation a day or two before the event. Regardless of time frame, employers are required to acknowledge public holidays announce by the government.
